Hungary Buys 25 Bombardier Traxx Locomotives

Bombardier will supply 25 Traxx locomotives to Hungary under a €80m contract, featuring Bombardier’s Mitrac propulsion technology and including an option for another 25.

Bombardier will supply 25 Traxx locomotives to Hungary for domestic passenger use as well as for cross-border transport to Austria and Germany.

The €80m ($112m) contract has been awarded by Hungarian state railway Magyar Államvasutak and includes an option for another 25 locomotives.
The Traxx P 160 AC locomotives feature Bombardier’s Mitrac propulsion technology and consist of three electric variants, namely the multi-system, alternating and direct current locomotives as well as a diesel-electric design.
Delivery of the first vehicle is scheduled for spring 2011.
