The Indian Ministry of Railways has announced it is considering using bio-diesel to power its trains, according to Indian news reports.

On an inspection of an Indian pilot bio-diesel plant, Minister of State for Railways, R Velu told Indian reporters the plant has developed a processing mechanism for converting vegetable and cooking oils, palm oil and fish oil into bio-diesel.
The oil produced would be used in locomotives and diesel mutliple units as well as other vehicle
