UTA Reports 3.7% TRAX Ridership Decrease To 13M Trips In 2025
UTA reported 13 million TRAX trips in 2025, a 3.7% decrease. The agency opened South Jordan Downtown Station and delivered 20 new light-rail vehicles.

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) recorded nearly 13 million passenger trips on its TRAX light-rail network in 2025, a 3.7% decrease from the 13.5 million reported in 2024. Ridership on the FrontRunner commuter rail line exceeded 4 million for the second consecutive year. The S-Line streetcar, which experienced service interruptions due to freezing temperatures, registered 457,000 rides.
In March 2025, the agency opened the South Jordan Downtown Station on the TRAX Red Line. The new station is located in proximity to a Minor League Baseball stadium. During the same year, UTA took delivery of 20 new light-rail vehicles. These units are manufactured in Utah and are specified to provide level boarding for passenger accessibility.
The authority has scheduled the start of construction for an extension to the S-Line streetcar for 2026. The project’s planned completion is set for 2027.
