RZD International LLC (a subsidiary of JSC Russian Railways) has completed its work on the Bujanovac–Bukarevac line in Serbia, the first of the three southern regions of Pan-European Transport Corridor X. Reconstruction of the 14-km stretch finished ahead of the contractual terms for the month.
During the work, the complete replacement of the lower and upper track, the stacking of five turnouts, and the reconstruction of 13 railway crossings, as well as the reconstruction of two stations and low platforms, a guttering device, and the restoration of contact network and control and communication systems, was carried out. As a result of the reconstruction, train speeds have increased to 120 km/h.
The model of construction and installation of work in 36-h technological windows has been used for the first time in Serbia, thus avoiding the need to cease train traffic. In addition, during the period of peak demand, from mid-June to late August, passenger trains traveled without any interruption in movement.
RZD International continues reconstruction on the Vinartsi–Dzhordzhevo line, and work on the Vranjska Banja–Ristovac line is scheduled to be completed in the near future. The cost of the construction and modernization of the three southern sections of Corridor X is more than $38 million and is being paid for using Russian state credit.
