Russia to Reconstructed 31 Stations for World Cup Organisation

The stations will be reconstructed and adapted for people with limited mobility. In addition, they will have improved security, a key requirement for such an event. The total cost is estimated at 8.4 billion rubles and it will be financed by the investment program of JSC Russian Railways.

[/quote]Currently, work is underway on 13 complexes. The remaining 18 stations already meet international standards of transport infrastructure. Work on nine stations in Moscow were already completed in the course of comprehensive reconstruction and security programs, seven Sochi stations are equipped already thanks to the Olympic Games of 2014, and two Kazan station are ready thanks to the 2013 Universiade.

In order to the improve passenger information system, dynamic navigation was established, including electronic signs in Russian and English. In addition, for the convenience of passengers, 34 stations for charging mobile electronics will be installed the first quarter of 2018, which will also provide video communication with staff from the visitor station.

Much attention is paid to adapting facilities for passengers with limited mobility. Accessibility will be ensured at all stages of passenger logistics: from arrival to the station to boarding the train. This includes ramps, elevators and specialized lifts, and lower ticket offices with a system for the hearing impaired. Passengers with visual disabilities will benefit from braille indicators and signs, pictograms, and mimic panels.

In order to meet the security requirements, the stations will also be equipped with additional screening equipment and the latest digital video surveillance cameras. Moreover, 7 stations will have 12 individual inspection pavilions which will not only simplify the scheme of passenger traffic, but also ensure greater safety of all participants of the games. In total, the entrance control areas during the FIFA World Cup 2018 will have more than 1700 employees.

All 31 stations will be connected to the main point of the Transportation Security Directorate of Railway Stations, a branch of JSC Russian Railways (Moscow), which will allow for real-time monitoring.

Particular attention will be paid to the train stations of the St. Petersburg transport hub, where the work will be carried out at Moskovsky, Vitebsky, Finlyandsky, Baltiisky and Ladozhsky railway stations. In addition to transport security, the creation of an accessible environment for low-mobility passengers at the station complexes will be carried out with regards to the restoration of roofs, fronts, and interiors; upgrading systems; and audio and visual passenger information. The bulk of the work will start in January 2017. The cost of the modernization of railway stations of St. Petersburg site will be nearly 3 billion rubles.
