Qatar Invites to Companies for Railway Projects
Qatar is planning to invite bids for $35bn worth of railway and metro systems within next two months as part of its preparation for hosting the 2022 Football World Cup.
Qatar is planning to award ten packages, worth between $1bn and $1.5bn, for tunnels and metro stations in the second quarter of next year.
Though the details of the contracts have not yet been revealed, it is believed they will include tenders for digging rail tunnels and setting up stations.
The project will include 100 stations, with 80 metro stations and 651km of track, which will be integrated with
Light Rapid and people-mover systems.
The total completion of the rail network is expected by 2026 and the project will be managed by QRDC, a 51:49 joint venture between state-owned Qatari Diar and Deutsche Bahn International.
