Nexans has been Awarded a Contract from Mumbai Metro
French company Nexans has been awarded a contract to supply the onboard power, control and data cables for 16 trains for Phase I of the Mumbai Metro system in India.
The one-year contract has been awarded by Nanjing SR Puzhen Rail Transport (NPRT), which is manufacturing the rolling stock for the metro system.
Nexans will supply a total of 932km of Flamex rail cables to be installed on the 16 four-car metro trains, which are under construction.
In addition to distributing power throughout the new trains, the cables will provide control and data communication services for various high-tech ancillary systems such as passenger information and signalling.
The power cables are twisted to allow elimination of harmonics in power connection between the converters and traction motors. This helps improve the traction system stability and meet EMC requirements.
The trains will be used on the 11km Mumbai Metro Phase I running on the east-west route of Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar.
