NEVZ Gets IRIS
International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) Certificate was presented to Sergey Podust, General Manager of Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ, CJSC Transmashholding Group), in the OJSC RZD action meeting.
Upon results of a certification audit NEVZ became the largest (as per the number of employees) enterprise in the world to have successfully passed IRIS certification procedure.
Implementation of IRIS was being performed since 2010. In March 2011 a project on Business Management System (BMS) was launched and a project team was formed. In 2011 and 2012 DQS, Certification Body, conducted two diagnostic BMS audits and a preliminary one for conformity with IRIS requirements. Audit results were further used for finalization of Business management System. In order to meet a mandatory requirement for IRIS Certificate qualification in June 2011 a certification Quality Management System (QMS) audit of NEVZ for compliance with ISO 9001:2008 International Standard was conducted.
Upon its results the Plant was issued QMS Certificate valid for three years. During 2011 and the period from January through May 2012 more than 70 actions to finalize BMS documents were taken. An official quality and technical security policy was developed. Risk management methods were applied, procedures for tender and obsolescence management, first article inspection, life cycle cost management and project management, etc. were developed. All necessary obligatory procedures including RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) management were introduced.
In 2011 in accordance with IRIS requirements more than 400 NEVZ employees were trained, 3 of them have now an official trainer status. The trained staff provides cross training for plant employees. The major outcome of the work performed is improvement of plant employees’ professional level, acquirement of team work skills, their personal involvement and will to ensure for meeting of high demands to company management.
Deployment of IRIS at Novocherkassk Electrical Locomotive Plant will allow product quality and competitiveness improvement, reduction of locomotive life cycle cost and will contribute to strengthening and deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation between OJSC Russian Railways and CJSC Transmashholding.
