GCRE Ltd has launched an Invitation to Tender (ITT) on the Sell to Wales platform this week to find a partner to develop Renewable Energy Sources (RES) at its South Wales site, equivalent in size to Gibraltar. The competition closes on 21st November, with a partner expected to be appointed in the Spring of 2026.

Project Overview

GCRE is a purpose-built facility under development in South Wales, intended to be a leading center for rail and sustainable mobility innovation and the UK’s first net-zero railway. The site is located on a former open cast mine.

Invitation to Tender

The EDCP Invitation to Tender (ITT) was launched on the Sell to Wales platform this week. Interested parties are encouraged to submit proposals. The competition is scheduled to close on 21st November, with the selection of a partner anticipated in the Spring of 2026.

GCRE Ltd Chief Executive Simon Jones stated that the site’s infrastructure, including 132kV and 400kV power grids and future fiber connectivity, makes it attractive for renewable energy assets and data center infrastructure development. The competition is running in parallel with GCRE’s search for private investment for the railway.
