Introduction

Events hosted by the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) will provide opportunities to learn about archaeological discoveries ahead of the East West Rail (EWR) project, which will involve 95 miles of track connecting Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford, and Cambridge.

Event Overview

The events, organized by MOLA, will feature displays of archaeological artifacts, including pottery, coins, brooches, bracelets, and buttons. Demonstrations of ancient crafts will be available, alongside opportunities for visitors to participate in activities such as basket weaving and designing plant pots inspired by ancient practices. Additionally, an immersive virtual reality roundhouse experience will be offered, and archaeologists will be present to discuss recent excavations and discoveries in the local area.

Purpose of the Events

These events are scheduled to take place before planned archaeological investigations commence in preparation for the construction of the 95 miles of East West Rail track. The aim is to provide EWR Co with insights into how communities wish to receive information regarding archaeological findings associated with the new rail scheme.

The pop-up museums, which require no pre-booking and are suitable for all ages, will be held at the following locations and times:

  • Bedford: Wednesday 20th August 2025, 11am-6pm at Queens Park Community Centre, Marlborough Road, Bedford, MK40 4LF
  • Milton Keynes: Thursday 21st August 2025, 11am-6pm at Fishermead Trinity Centre, Fishermead Boulevard, Milton Keynes, MK6 2LA
