Dutch national rail operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has partnered with CAF Digital Services, Camlin Rail, and Arcadis to implement a cutting-edge inspection system aimed at transforming fleet maintenance efficiency. The project integrates Camlin’s TrainVue in-service inspection technology with CAF’s LeadMind digital platform, enabling high-resolution 3D/2D imaging of critical components like bogies and pantographs.

Ten TrainVue systems will be installed nationwide, following a successful pilot that validated the technology’s ability to reduce manual inspection intervals from 48 hours to real-time monitoring. The system, supported by Arcadis’ BIM-based 3D modeling, ensures precise alignment with infrastructure and optimal image quality. Significantly, this marks the first European deployment of train inspection equipment (TrainVue) on infrastructure owner ProRail’s network, showcasing scalable innovation.

NS project manager Barbara de Jong highlighted that digitizing inspections allows daytime monitoring and nighttime corrective maintenance, streamlining operations. Javier de la Cruz of CAF emphasized the role of AI and cloud integration in advancing rail safety, while Arcadis’ Erik van der Peet praised the 3D model’s role in overcoming design and logistical challenges.

Railway infrastructure, rolling stock and transport technologies specialist focused on global rail industry developments, high-speed rail systems, signaling technologies and freight transportation. Covering railway investments, public transport modernization, rail operations and international mobility projects across Europe, Asia and North America.
