Deutsche Bahn has allocated an additional €50 million for the current year to fund a nationwide initiative for station security and cleanliness. The program, announced at Berlin Central Station, involves collaboration with the German Federal Police to implement security measures across the network.

Security infrastructure will be expanded, augmenting the existing network of over 11,000 video surveillance cameras. Plans for 2026 include the deployment of additional security personnel to major hubs, specifically naming the stations at Mainz, Mannheim, and Hamburg as initial locations for this expansion.

Maintenance operations will see a significant increase, with a target to double the number of stations receiving intensive cleaning to 1,400 by 2026, a scope that includes numerous rural locations. Following a successful pilot project, mobile intervention teams are being deployed nationally for the rapid repair of minor damage such as broken glass and vandalized surfaces.

Initial implementation of the program will begin this year at 25 key stations before a wider rollout. These measures are being deployed during a period of extensive, long-term infrastructure modernization across the German rail network.
