Introduction

CSX and BNSF Railway Co. have introduced new joint intermodal service products to facilitate coast-to-coast shipping between the western and eastern United States.

New Intermodal Services

The new services include a coast-to-coast direct domestic intermodal service between Southern California and Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jacksonville, Florida. Additionally, a new service is planned between Phoenix and Atlanta, designed to shift over-the-road (OTR) freight to rail. New direct international intermodal services will also be offered between the Port of New York and New Jersey and Norfolk, Virginia, and Kansas City, Missouri.

Infrastructure Enhancements

To support the expanding market, two new 10,000-foot sidings are under construction between Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona. These sidings will improve meet/pass operations on the route that links to BNSF’s Southern Transcon, which connects Los Angeles to Chicago.

Conclusion

CSX and BNSF Railway Co. are jointly providing new intermodal services for coast-to-coast shipping. These services involve both domestic and international routes, with infrastructure enhancements planned to support the expansion.
