CD Cargo is set to expand its fleet of locomotives with the purchase of three additional Vectron trains from Siemens.

Each vehicle is worth an estimated CZK100m ($4.06m) and will be equipped with the modern European Train Control System (ETCS). The three trains are expected to be delivered either later this year or in 2018.

CD Cargo board of directors chairman Ivan Bednárik said: [quote font_size=”16″ arrow=”yes”]

“Locomotives will be used mainly for intermodal trains, not only with containers, but also with road semi-trailers.

“In June, we plan to deploy Vectron on an already running train with semi-trailers between Brno and Rostock, new locomotives could be found in Braunschweig, Koper, and certainly in Austria.”

Siemens’ Vectron features a range of modular vehicles, from pure AC and DC trains up to a four-system MS variants.
