Bombardier Transportation and China Railway Signal & Communication have been awarded a $56 million rail signalling contract by Pakistan Railways for the upgrade of the Bin Qasim – Mirpur Mathelo route, forming part of the planned Karachi – Lahore main line.

Pakistan Railways has awarded a $56 million rail signalling contract to a consortium of German firm Bombardier Transportation and China Railway Signal & Communication.

The deal is for the 328km double-track Bin Qasim – Mirpur Mathelo route, which forms the first phase of the planned Karachi – Lahore main line upgrade.

The consortium leader Bombardier, with a share of €27m ($37m) will supply its Interflo 200 system, which can be combined with national automatic train protection systems and is suitable for later upgrading.

Work includes the design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlockings and EBI Screen 2000 control systems.
