Bombardier Installed Interlocking System at 150th Station to RZD
Bombardier Transportation (Signal), a Russian arm of Bombardier, has installed its EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking (CBI) system at the 150th station on the Russian Railway’s (RZD) network.
The CBI system began commercial operations on the Onokhoy station, in the East-Siberian branch of the railway network.
The technology is the first to feature some of the parts produced locally by Bombardier and RZD’s manufacturing JV team at the Elteza signalling company.
In 2010, Bombardier purchased a stake in the RZD subsidiary Elteza, a supplier of signalling equipment manufacturer in Russia.
East-Siberian Railway Signalling Department chief engineer Evgeny Soldatenkov said: “This is an important milestone in our joint work on the modernisation of the East-Siberian Railway.
“We have been working with Bombardier Transportation for over 15 years and they have proven to be an expert and dependable partner that never fails to deliver.”
The Bombardier Transportation (Signal) engineering joint-venture has been supplying signalling equipment, including Bombardier’s EBI Lock 950 CBI systems, to the Russian Rail network.
Bombardier Transportation (Signal) JV general manager Andrey Golubev said:
“Reflecting the continued success of our partnership with RZD, this commissioning also represents a significant achievement in our programme to localise the manufacture of rail control products, which will support the further modernisation of Russia’s rail infrastructure.”
In a separately announcement, Petards, a developer of advanced security and surveillance systems, has secured a contract worth over £1m to supply its eyeTrain products to Bombardier Transportation.
The eyeTrain systems use video and sensing technology to improve safety and reduce operating costs.
Under the deal, Petards will provide eyeTrain saloon and driver only operation (DOO) systems, which will be equipped on the new four-car Electrostar electrical multiple units (EMUs).
Petards chairman Raschid Abdullah said: “We are delighted that Petards’ eyeTrain systems continue to be the system of choice for fitment to Bombardier’s Electrostar trains.
“This order adds to the hundreds of Electrostar vehicles for which eyeTrain systems have previously been specified and further bolsters the Group’s present order book for delivery in 2016.”
