Beacon, a leading European rolling stock leasing company, has placed an order with Siemens Mobility for 25 Vectron locomotives as part of its strategy to expand its fleet and support the growing demand in both passenger and rail freight markets. This order will increase Beacon’s Vectron fleet to over 180 locomotives across continental Europe, with the framework agreement allowing for additional options in the future.

Adam Cunliffe, CEO of Beacon, emphasized the importance of a modern and reliable locomotive fleet in meeting customer needs. He highlighted the Vectron’s reputation for efficiency and dependability, which has made it a cornerstone of Beacon’s operations. The new locomotives, with a power output of 6.4MW, will be manufactured at Siemens Mobility’s plant in Munich-Allach, Germany, while the bogies will be supplied by the company’s global competence center in Graz, Austria.

This order marks Beacon’s first Vectron acquisition since November 2023, when the company added 10 locomotives to its fleet for operations on the Rhine-Alpine corridor following its acquisition of Mitsui Rail Capital Europe. Albrecht Neumann, CEO of Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, expressed satisfaction with the continued partnership, noting that the framework agreement and initial orders solidify the long-standing collaboration between the two companies. Since its launch in 2010, the Vectron series has been a major success for Siemens, with hundreds of units sold to prominent customers like VR Group, Deutsche Bahn, and SBB.
