The Indian Ministry of Railways is exploring the use of bio-diesel to power its trains after a pilot plant successfully converts vegetable, cooking, palm, and fish oils into fuel for locomotives and multiple units.

The Indian Ministry of Railways has announced it is considering using bio-diesel to power its trains, according to Indian news reports.

On an inspection of an Indian pilot bio-diesel plant, Minister of State for Railways, R Velu told Indian reporters the plant has developed a processing mechanism for converting vegetable and cooking oils, palm oil and fish oil into bio-diesel.
The oil produced would be used in locomotives and diesel mutliple units as well as other vehicle

Railway infrastructure, rolling stock and transport technologies specialist focused on global rail industry developments, high-speed rail systems, signaling technologies and freight transportation.
