Wabtec has completed its acquisition of Sweden-based Dellner Couplers, a global supplier of train coupling systems for the passenger rail market. The acquired company adds a global installed base of approximately 100,000 couplers to Wabtec’s portfolio. The specific closing date and financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Operational Details

Dellner Couplers, with an 85-year operational history, manufactures and maintains a product range centered on train safety and connectivity components. The company’s core offerings include couplers, gangways, and dampers. Dellner also developed proprietary Crash Energy Management (CEM) software used to model and identify effective energy absorption solutions for rolling stock.

The acquisition provides Wabtec with Dellner’s vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities. Dellner produces the majority of its own components at facilities located in Poland, India, and China. The company’s global footprint includes production, assembly, and after-sales service facilities across 13 countries, servicing a base of over 200 customers worldwide.

Market Impact

The acquisition directly supports Wabtec’s strategy to expand its business in the passenger transport segment. According to Wabtec President and CEO Rafael Santana, the addition strengthens the company’s public transport offerings and provides a platform for delivering new solutions to the rail industry.
