VRE officials stated that a celebration to mark the milestone will be held once the ongoing federal government shutdown concludes.

The achievement also highlights VRE’s ridership recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. In July 2025, over 100,000 more passengers utilized the commuter railroad compared to July 2024.

VRE provides service connecting central and northern Virginia with Washington, D.C. The railroad operates two lines, the Manassas and Fredericksburg lines, which serve a total of 19 stations.
