The Commercial Director of “Tverskoy Coach Building Plant”, Taras Spivak, the Deputy of General Director for Logistics of the Russian Post, Alexey Skatin, the Director of “Mobility Department of Siemens, Joerg Liebscher, participated in the signature of the document.

The new mail freight wagons will be produced for the RIC gauge, complying both with the Russian and European requirements. According to the Russian Post, the need for such wagons is attributable to the significant growth of the demand for international shipments. Only in the first half of 2016, the Company processed around one hundred million international shipments of goods, doubling the figures of the same period in 2015. In such a case, only the railway transport is able to ensure the delivery of goods prohibited for being transported by the airline, for example, electronic devices with li-ion batteries. Moreover, according to the parties, the project of the post transit between China, Russia, and Europe, participating in the signature of the MoU, will not only allow the Russian Post accelerating the shipments on the territory of Russia, but also contribute to the development of Russia’s transit and export potential.

In the framework of the signed Memorandum of Understanding, it is planned to develop and produce mail freight wagons with the set of bogies for the Russian and European gauges (which is also standard in China). TVZ already has successful experience in cooperating both with Siemens on the production of RIC passenger coaches and the Russian Post on mail freight wagons. The RIC passenger coaches are currently in operation on the routes such as Moscow-Helsinki, Moscow-Berlin, Moscow-Paris and others. TVZ manufactures mail freight wagons since 2015. Their competitive advantage is a higher loading capacity and the application of the integrated monitoring system. The Russian Post has purchased 50 wagons type 61-4504 and 61-4505, which are currently transporting mail on the Russian railways in the sets of mail and passenger trains.

The first trainsets with the new RIC gauge mail freight wagons are planned to be used on route Beijing-Moscow-Berlin. The main milestones of the project will be elaborated during 2016 and 2017.

The newest development has already captured the interest of customers from Russia and other countries with the track gauge of 1520mm.
