Introduction

The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) has awarded a $21.7 million construction contract to a joint venture between Stacy Witbeck and Herzog to construct 9 miles of new passenger-rail track from Windsor to Healdsburg, California.

Project Scope

The extension is part of SMART’s passenger-rail service in Sonoma and Marin counties. The extension project will bring passenger rail service to Healdsburg for the first time in decades.

Project Funding

SMART has secured $269 million in federal, state, regional, and local transportation grant funds to complete work from Windsor through to the northern city limit of Healdsburg.

Project Goals

The project will bring SMART one step closer to completing the tracks between the cities of Larkspur and Cloverdale, according to SMART officials.
