Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a S$136.8m ($97m) contract to a consortium of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, CSR Qingdao Sifang and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Singapore for 12 new six-car trains.

These are the final batch of the fifty seven new trains that can be put into service on the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL) between 2016 and 2019.
Delivery of the 12 trains is predicted to begin in early 2018, when they are going to endure testing on the NSEWL depots earlier than being put into service round mid-2019.
