Introduction

The city of Rochelle and Illinois transportation officials commenced a multimillion-dollar expansion project at the Rochelle Intermodal Transload Center (RITC) yesterday.

Project Overview

The RITC is situated at the intersection of Interstate highways 88 and 39, near the BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad lines. The facility is served by the Burlington Junction Railway (BJRY).

Operational Details

Opened in 2020, the RITC was a joint venture between the city and the Greater Rochelle Economic Development Corp. In its initial phase, the facility handled 1,000 rail cars and served as a staging area.

Services and Clientele

The RITC provides direct rail services for various industries. It serves a dozen customers and handles hundreds of shipping containers.

Expansion Rationale

The expansion of the RITC is in response to increased demand for rail-to-truck transloading and third-party logistics services in the Rochelle area, according to city officials.
