Introduction

Norfolk Southern Railway (NS) has reached a five-year collective bargaining agreement with the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS). The agreement, which covers nearly 970 union members, includes an 18.8% compounded wage increase over the next five years.

Wage and Benefit Increases

The agreement between Norfolk Southern Railway and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen includes an 18.8% compounded wage increase over the next five years. Additionally, the agreement provides for more paid vacation earlier in members’ careers and enhanced health and welfare benefits.

Work Rule Enhancements

The new agreement also incorporates local work-rule enhancements. These include improved travel-expense reimbursement and more flexible scheduling for signal construction.

Union and Company Collaboration

BRS President Michael Baldwin stated that the BRS and NS have established a positive working relationship through safety collaboration programs. This relationship contributed to progress at the bargaining table.

Agreement Status

NS has now reached ratified agreements with 12 of its 13 unions. A tentative agreement is pending ratification by the final remaining union.
