Order Details

Multilevel III Car Specifications

The Multilevel III cars are designed to replace existing 40-year-old single-level cars. These new cars are expected to travel between 10 and 20 times further between critical repairs and increase capacity by more than 12%. Approximately one-third of the total order consists of multilevel power cars (MLPCs). A 12-car trainset will typically utilize four MLPCs to provide redundancy and improve reliability. Passenger amenities include USB charging ports, digital screens, and automated audio announcements.

ALP-45 Locomotive Features

The 12 ALP-45 dual-power locomotives will replace older, diesel-only engines within the NJ Transit fleet. These locomotives can utilize overhead catenary wires for electric power and switch to diesel engines that meet Tier IV emission requirements where electrification is unavailable. With this new purchase, NJ Transit will own a total of 72 ALP-45 dual-power locomotives.

Alstom’s Portfolio and Technology

The Multilevel cars are part of Alstom’s Adessia commuter rail portfolio, designed for sustainable travel. They can operate at speeds between 120 and 200 km/h on both electrified and non-electrified networks. The ALP-45 dual-power locomotive is part of Alstom’s Traxx Passenger multi-system and multi-power locomotives portfolio.
