Introduction

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) celebrated the completion of accessibility upgrades at Franklin Station on the Franklin and Foxboro commuter-rail line with a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Accessibility Improvements

Passengers at Franklin Station can now board trains without encountering stairs. Previously, there were no stair-free options for boarding. The project involved the design and installation of a freestanding mini-high platform on top of the original platform infrastructure.

Station Enhancements

Additional upgrades included the installation of new lighting, an electronic message board with audio, a new canopy, tactile warning strips, benches, and trash cans.

Parking and Accessibility

The MBTA also repaved the station’s parking lot, relocated accessible parking spaces to be closer to the ramp, and increased the total number of accessible spots.

MBTA Statement

An MBTA representative stated, “We are committed to making all stations accessible, and these upgrades … help bring us one step closer to a system that works for everyone.”
