Project Details

The 8-mile bypass aims to reroute railroad traffic away from downtown Lac-Megantic, Quebec. The project is a direct response to the 2013 train derailment.

Background

The 2013 derailment in Lac-Megantic resulted in 47 fatalities and the destruction of the city’s downtown area. The incident also caused a spill of 1.6 million gallons of crude oil and led to the evacuation of 2,000 residents.
