Kentucky and Iowa transportation officials have awarded $8.9 million in grants and loans for freight-rail infrastructure projects. Kentucky will receive $5.6 million in grants for six railway infrastructure improvement projects across seven counties.

Railway Infrastructure Grants in Kentucky

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced the allocation of $5.6 million in grants for six railway infrastructure improvement projects. These projects are intended to enhance commercial rail access, improve safety, encourage investment, and generate employment opportunities.

Grant Distribution

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will distribute the grants through the state’s Industrial Access and Safety Improvement program.

Project Details

The funding will support the construction of two new rail spurs designed to serve industrial parks and manufacturing facilities. Additionally, the grants will facilitate the replacement of culverts along a high-density Norfolk Southern Railway line. The program also includes provisions for expanding on-site storage and loading capacity and the acquisition of new equipment to enhance both efficiency and safety.
