Programme Overview

The eighth round of the HS2 Innovation Accelerator programme, launched on 23 September 2025, is focused on supporting the “reset” of the HS2 project. This initiative aims to leverage innovative solutions from small technology specialists and start-ups to streamline delivery, improve productivity, and deliver value for money. The programme is led by HS2’s Chief Executive, Mark Wild, who is overseeing a review to ensure efficient and cost-effective construction.

Key Challenges

The current round addresses three key challenges: improving value for money, enhancing site visibility and productivity, and strengthening safety management. Successful applicants will develop solutions to embed cost control and high performance throughout the project.

Impact and Success

Since its inception in 2020, the HS2 Innovation Accelerator has supported 37 small tech firms, resulting in 31 pilot projects with HS2. These projects have led to reported cost savings of over £50 million. The programme has also significantly impacted participants, with over 40% of alumni now involved in other supply chain projects. These firms have collectively raised over £240 million in investment and created over 580 new jobs, more than doubling their team sizes.

Application and Selection Process

Applications for the accelerator opened on 23 September 2025 and will close on 31 October 2025. The selection process will identify twelve finalists, from which six firms will be chosen to scale their demonstrations into trial projects with HS2.
