Apprenticeship Program Overview

GTR’s apprenticeship program is a four-year scheme designed to provide aspiring engineers with practical and theoretical training. Apprentices will gain experience maintaining GTR’s fleet across the Southern, Great Northern, and Gatwick Express networks. The scheme is open to candidates aged 16 and above who hold GCSEs at Grade 4 or higher in English, Maths, and Science.

Training and Development

Apprentices will gain hands-on experience and take on increasing responsibility as their skills develop. Apprentices will receive free travel across the network. GTR offers development opportunities, and many apprentices gain permanent employment after finishing their apprenticeship. Several managers at GTR began their careers through an apprenticeship.

Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for apprentices is GBP 17,245, increasing throughout the course to GBP 24,090 in the final year. Upon qualifying as a Level 1 engineer, salaries increase to around GBP 37,824.
