Introduction

Georgiana & Andalusia Railroad LLC (GAR) has filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board to take over operations from Three Notch Railway LLC on two rail lines in southern Alabama, including a 33-mile line between Georgiana and Andalusia.

Transaction Overview

GAR has submitted an exemption notice to the Surface Transportation Board to replace Three Notch Railway LLC as the operator of two rail lines in southern Alabama.

Line Details

The first line spans 33 miles, connecting an interchange point in Georgiana, Alabama, with Andalusia. The second line is 2.64 miles long, linking the Georgiana line to Andalusia.

Asset Acquisition and Lease Assumption

GAR plans to purchase the track and rail-related improvements on the Georgiana line from Three Notch Railway. Additionally, GAR will assume Three Notch’s lease from CSX for the land beneath the Georgiana line. GAR will also take over Three Notch’s lease of the Andalusia line from Andalusia & Conecuh Railroad Co. (A&C).

Agreement Status

GAR has reached an agreement in principle with Three Notch, CSX, and A&C regarding the proposed transaction. This agreement will allow GAR to replace Three Notch as the operator and assume the common carrier obligations on the lines.
