Czech Railways: RegioFox DMU Fleet Modernization Boost

Introduction

České dráhy (ČD) has received the final RegioFox DMU for this year from Pesa Bydgoszcz, which will operate on regional lines within the Hradec Králové Region. This delivery completes the year’s order of ten modern trains.

Fleet Expansion in Hradec Králové

This year’s final RegioFox DMU delivery marks the completion of a series of ten trains deployed in the Hradec Králové Region. Furthermore, the fleet will expand in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region with an additional eight units entering service.

Fleet Renewal and Modernization

České dráhy’s fleet renewal program includes a total of 40 modern regional trains, with 33 additional RegioFox trains scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026. The full modernization of the regional train fleet in the region is set to conclude next year with the delivery of the final seven RegioFox DMUs. These units will be maintained at the ČD depots in Trutnov and Hradec Králové.

Operational Deployment

ČD plans to use the RegioFox DMU fleet for express and passenger services on the V2 Hradec Králové – Doudleby nad Orlicí – Letohrad line. These trains will provide direct connections between the regional capital and Rychnov nad Kněžnou and Solnice without transfers at Častolovice. On the Hradec Králové – Častolovice section, a two-unit formation will be used, similar to express services to Trutnov and Svoboda nad Úpou, or Náchod and Broumov.

Service and Features

According to Michal Krapinec, CEO of České dráhy, “RegioFox DMUs represent a generational leap in the quality, comfort and reliability of trains on non-electrified regional lines. Twenty-six RegioFox units provide almost 3,000 seats in barrier-free, air-conditioned trains.” Once all new units are delivered next year, the RegioFox DMUs will ensure comfortable travel on various routes.

Conclusion

The delivery of the final RegioFox DMU for this year is a key moment in the completion of the delivery, which is part of a significant train replacement program within the Hradec Králové Region. Czech Railways has ordered a total of 106 RegioFox DMUs from Pesa, with 69 already in service across several regions, including Hradec Králové, South Bohemian, Plzeň, Pardubice, Central Bohemian, as well as Prague and the Vysočina Region.
