Belarusian Railway has awarded a €60m ($81m) contract to Swiss firm Stadler Rail to supply ten Fast Light Innovative Regional Train (FLIRT) electric multiple units.

Of the total fleet, six trains are planned to deliver local services in capital city Minsk and the remaining four are planned for longer-distance routes.
The 1,524mm-gauge trains will be almost identical to the fleet of 32 FLIRT trains being supplied for Helsinki suburban services in Finland, according to Stadler.
Deliveries to Belarus are expected to begin in December 2010 and run until mid-2012.
