Amtrak, the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority, and the Maryland Department of Transportation are collaborating on a $705 million project to construct a new train maintenance facility and upgrade the Ivy City Rail Yard in Washington, D.C.

Upgrades and Infrastructure

The core objective of the project is to support the deployment of Amtrak’s new Airo trains, scheduled to begin service on the Northeast Corridor in 2027. The project encompasses the design, construction, and renovation of both new and existing facilities within the yard.
