Alstom Increases its Offer of Rail Services in Europe
Alstom has finalised the acquisition of the SATI train maintenance and wheel reprofiling site in Belgium, reinforcing its offer of services for European freight, passenger and industrial rail operators. Alstom plans to invest over a million Euros in new equipment, buildings and staff training by 2016.
The site covers 45,000 m² and has 18 tracks. It is located at the port of Antwerp in Belgium, a hub for freight corridors near to the ports of Zeebrugge and Rotterdam.
Alstom will continue the site’s current activities in addition to introducing maintenance for the new H3 hybrid shunting locomotive. The site’s configuration will also enable Alstom to integrate ERTMS signalling equipment into trains.
“With over 25 years’ experience in the service field, Alstom is reinforcing its offer to the Benelux market and contributing to a European network of local services to benefit our customers,” declares Marcel Miller, Managing Director of Alstom Belgium.
Alstom Transport offers a full range of rail services covering trains, infrastructure and signalling equipment throughout their operating lifetime. These services include maintaining and upgrading rail products, supplying parts and carrying out repairs and renovations.
The Antwerp site now joins Alstom’s other major bases in the field of rail services in Europe (Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania, UK, Poland, Sweden) and the rest of the world (Brazil, Chile, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Singapore, Turkey, USA, etc.).
