Cooperation Agreement

The renewed agreement between LTG Infra and PKP PLK ensures mutual assistance during railway accidents on the 1435 mm European standard gauge. This collaboration strengthens operational resilience on a strategically important cross-border route.

Technical Support

Under the renewed arrangement, PKP PLK will provide technical support to Lithuania should an incident occur on the European-gauge line. This line is crucial for freight flows, military mobility, and specialized cargo movements.

Statements

Egidijus Lazauskas, CEO of LTG Group, stated the agreement demonstrates a shared commitment to the reliability and safety of the 1435 mm European gauge. Piotr Wyborski, CEO of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., noted the cooperation highlights the joint responsibility for the wider Rail Baltica corridor. Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra, mentioned the agreement is critical for maintaining high safety standards.

Operational Impact

LTG Cargo utilizes the 1435 mm line for freight transport, military mobility, and oversized cargo. One of its core services is an intermodal train operating three times a week on the Kaunas–Łódź–Duisburg route. The standard gauge eliminates the need for cargo transfer at the Lithuanian-Polish border, reducing transit time and costs.

Infrastructure Assessment

Alongside the emergency-response agreement, LTG Infra has also signed a bilateral arrangement with PKP PLK for the use of a diagnostic vehicle to assess the condition of the 1435 mm infrastructure. This continuous monitoring is expected to improve maintenance planning and prevent potential disruptions. Both managers continue to collaborate on the longer-term development of European-gauge infrastructure in the region.

Conclusion

The renewed cooperation agreement between LTG Infra and PKP PLK aims to ensure mutual assistance in case of railway accidents on the 1435 mm European standard gauge, supporting freight transport, military mobility, and oversized cargo movement, and enhancing infrastructure assessment.
