Bombardier will Supply Electric Trains for Trenitalia

Trenitalia has signed a $383 million contract with Bombardier for an additional 100 electric locomotives, increasing its fleet of similar vehicles by 53%, as part of its €2 billion investment plan to upgrade regional passenger services.

Italian rail operator Trenitalia has awarded a $383m (€258m) contract to Bombardier to supply an additional 100 E464 electric locomotives.
The locomotives feature 3.5MW of power and can travel at a maximum speed of 160kmph. The contract, with an option for 50 more locomotives, is part of the operator’s €2bn investment plan to strengthen its regional passenger fleet.

The new order is an addition to the 638 similar locomotives previously ordered, 480 of which are already in use. The locomotives are scheduled to be delivered between 2010 and 2012.
