The US state of Florida is planning to apply for a share of $8bn in federal money to revive its bullet train project, pending since 1999.

It is reviewing interim guidelines issued by the US Federal Railroad Administration and may file a ‘pre-application’ by the stated 10 July 2009 deadline.

Florida’s efforts to resurrect the project are inspired by US President Obama’s vision to build a national network of high-speed trains similar to those in France and Spain.
