Thailand plans to double its rail system speed and expand logistics networks by doubling train speeds from 50-60 km/h to 100-120 km/h over a THB170bn budget for the next five years, with high-speed train projects set for auctions.

Thailand is planning to increase the speed of its rail system and expand its logistics network.

Train speeds will double from 50-60km/h to 100-120km/h under a THB170bn ($5.2bn) rail system budget for the next five years. Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said auctions for the construction of high-speed train projects are in the pipeline.

The country is also studying rail routes to connect to China, according to Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation.
