Stadler Delivers 36 Streetcars to Bochum and Gelsenkirchen
Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahnen AG placed an order with Stadler Pankow GmbH for 30 low-floor and 6 high-floor railcars intended for city rail traffic. The order amounts to approximately 80 million Euro and provides the continued basis of a successful future for Stadler Pankow GmbH in Berlin.
The “Tango” is a modern high-floor streetcar which will run in the city centre of Bochum from 2007 on. The low-floor version is concerns the Variobahn, a well-tried vehicle which has been in successful operation in many cities for some time now. This order puts Stadler in a position of advancing successfully in a new market segment once again. “We are very pleased with this accomplishment, especially since we can well cover the job profiles of the customers in this market segment with both the “Variobahn” and the “Tango” families of vehicles.” says Michael Daum, COO of the Stadler Rail Group and managing director of Stadler Pankow GmbH. Stadler Pankow GmbH, with sites in Berlin and Velten, is the German firm within the Swiss Stadler Rail Group — to which two additional locations Stadler Bussnang AG (CH) as well as Stadler Altenrhein AG (CH) also belong. Railcars for regional, suburban, and urban trains have been designed, developed, and constructed on a 15 000 m2 area in Pankow since 1996. In addition, maintenance, modernisation and repairs of rail vehicles are carried out. The Stadler Group currently employs 1050 persons, of which 300 are in Germany
