French railway giant SNCF plans a significant acquisition of German logistics firm Geodis, aiming to transform it into a leading global freight transport company.

French railway SNCF has launched a full-scale takeover bid for transport and logistics firm Geodis to create a large global freight transport company.

SNCF, which already owns 42 percent of Geodis, has valued the bid for the company at €1.1bn.
SNCF Chairman Guillaume Pépy last month announced that he wanted to make SNCF one of the world’s top five logistics operators by 2012.

Railway infrastructure, rolling stock and transport technologies specialist focused on global rail industry developments, high-speed rail systems, signaling technologies and freight transportation. Covering railway investments, public transport modernization, rail operations and international mobility projects across Europe, Asia and North America.
