Pakistan Railway has finalized a deal with China for the purchase of 75 Chinese locomotives, funded by a loan from China’s EXIM Bank, as part of its development plan to procure 200 coaches and 500 high-speed capacity wagons.

The Pakistan Railway has finalised a programme to buy 75 Chinese locomotives, to be funded by a loan from China.

Pakistan Railway is currently in talks with China’s EXIM Bank for the loan, which is expected to be finalised shortly, the state railways’ chairman said.

China has agreed to make available 85% of the loan. The broader programme includes buying a total of 150 locomotives, 75 of which are expected to be bought from the US.

The programme is part of the state railways’ development plan under which 200 coaches and 500 high speed capacity wagons would be procured.
