Morocco Opens Rabat-Salé Tramway

Morocco inaugurates the Rabat-Salé tramway, connecting two cities with a total length of 20km and three stations, expected to transport up to 180,000 daily passengers.

Morocco has inaugurated the Rabat-Salé tramway in the capital, which was constructed at a cost of €303m.

The new tramway has two lines, spans a total length of 20km and has 31 stations. The tramway project also includes the construction of a large viaduct, the Hassan II bridge, which connects the twin cities.

The European Investment Bank-funded project has been underway since 2010 and is expected to transport some 180,000 passengers a day between Rabat and its twin city Salé. The project is part of the larger tramway network that comprises of four lines.
