M-PACT-Thales Consortium Awarded Tramvay Extension Contract in UK
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive has awarded the M-PACT-Thales consortium a multimillion-pound electromechanical systems contract for the Metrolink Phase 3A extension project, increasing daily passenger trips from 55,000 to over 90,000 and extending maintenance services until 2017.

Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive has awarded the M-PACT-Thales consortium an electromechanical systems contract for the Manchester tramway extension.
The consortium will supply overhead line, power, communications, passenger information and CCTV, and associated systems integration and maintenance services for the Metrolink Phase 3A extension project.
The extended lines will run to Oldham and Rochdale, Droylsden in Tameside and Chorlton in south Manchester.
The extension is expected to increase the number of daily passenger trips on the network from 55,000 to more than 90,000, according to Thales.
The M-PACT consortium consists of Thales UK, Laing O’Rourke and GrantRail.
The project is due for completion in 2012, with an extended maintenance contract running until 2017.
