Invensys Rail will Install ERTMS in Turkey
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) has awarded a €76m contract to a joint venture between Invensys Rail and Turkish company Fermak to install European rail traffic management signalling and communications system (ERTMS) on the Bandirma-Menemen railway.
The 310km rail line is the main rail link between the Marmaray and Mediterranean seas. Invensys Rail CEO Kevin Riddett said this contract reinforces Invensys Rail’s commitment to the Turkey’s rapidly expanding rail sector. “By working closely with our local partners and drawing on our long-standing experience in Turkey, we look forward to delivering another successful signalling and communications installation on time and on budget,” Riddett said.
Invensys Rail’s share in the contract will be worth €59m and the company will be responsible for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of its FUTUR ERTMS systems both onboard the trains and on the line side. The company will also install automatic train stop equipment, WESTRACE electronic interlockings, FS3000 jointless track circuits, level crossing safety systems and GSM-R voice and data communications, while the entire line will be equipped with ERTMS Level 2 equipment.
As part of the deal, Invensys Rail will also build a central traffic control centre in Balikesir. The UK-based company also installed and commissioned ERTMS Level 1 signalling equipment on TCCD’s 212km Ankara-Konya high-speed line and is currently deploying the upgrade to ERTMS Level 2.
Last November, Invensys Rail won a contract from DLH, the Turkish Directorate of Railways, Harbours and Airports Construction, to provide signalling technology for the CR3 Marmaray project in Istanbul. Under the contract, Invensys Rail – in a joint venture with Spanish-based OHL – will supply a signalling and automatic train protection system for the 77km commuter rail line linking Gezbe and Halkali under the Bosphorus crossing.
The company will provide signalling and communication solutions, including SIRIUS communication-based train control, FUTUR ERTMS Level 1, WESTRACE interlockings, jointless track circuits, axle counters, LED signals and centralised traffic control.
This link will see Invensys Rail deploy both its ERTMS system on conventional rail and its communication-based train control technology on commuter trains on the same railway.
