The Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality has approved the contract for Durmazlar to supply trams for Turkey’s first light rail line in Izmit, connecting Otogar with Seka ferry terminal.

The public procurement agency of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality has given the go-ahead for the municipality to sign a contract with Durmazlar, Turkey, to supply trams for the first light rail line in Izmit, a city in northwest Turkey. Durmazlar submitted a bid of EUR 19.74 million.
The five-section bi-directional Silkworm vehicles will accommodate up to 250 passengers and will have a maximum speed of 70km/h.
The 7.2km east-west Akçaray line will link Otogar with Seka ferry terminal and is due to open in early-2017. The 10-station line will have a commercial speed of 20km/h.
