Dubai Approves 2010 Rail Sector Budget

Dubai’s Rail Agency receives nearly AED4.9bn for rail transportation projects, marking 46% of total approved funding for the city’s transportation sector in 2010, with significant progress on the Dubai Metro and Green Line.

The UAE city of Dubai’s Rail Agency will receive nearly AED4.9bn ($1.35bn) for rail transportation projects in 2010, the Roads & Transport Authority has announced.

This is 46% of the AED10.741bn ($2.92bn) approved for the city’s transportation sector this year, including an operational budget of AED2.835bn ($748.8m) and capital and project budget of AED7.906bn ($2.15bn).
A major part of the funds will be used to finish the 75km Dubai Metro project, the first stage of which opened in September 2009.
The under-construction Green Line is scheduled to open in June this year.
