The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Turkey has awarded a €33.6m contract to China’s CSR Zhuzhou Electric for eight four-car trainsets, featuring advanced features like auto-stop announcement and emergency evacuation systems, for the city’s metro system expansion plans.

The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Turkey has awarded a €33.6m (CNY350m) contract to China’s CSR Zhuzhou Electric, to supply eight four-car trainsets for the city’s metro.

The wagons will be used on the under-construction Ege University-Üçyol-Üçkuyular line and on the Bornova metro.
The 80kmph, 1,000-passenger-capacity trainsets feature a welded aluminium body, auto-stop announcement, electronic maps, multimedia players, video monitors, fire detection and an emergency evacuation system.
The order is part of the Turkish city’s plans to add a new line to its existing 100km urban light rail system.
The delivery of the trains is scheduled before April 2012.
