Bombardier Transportation has secured two new mass transit projects, expanding its presence in the North American market.

Under a contract from Crosslinx Transit Solutions, Bombardier will deliver its Cityflo 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) system for Toronto’s Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line.

The contract, which is the company’s first rail control project in the country, marks its expansion into the Canadian rail signalling market.

Bombardier is also supplying a fleet of Flexity Freedom light rail vehicles for the LRT line.

In the second project, Bombardier is installing the Innovia automated people mover system, and its CityFlo 650 CBTC technology, at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

So far, the company has installed its Cityflo 650 system at eight airports across the US, including San Francisco International, Dallas Fort-Worth, and Phoenix International Airports.

Bombardier Transportation Rail Control Solutions division president Peter Cedervall said: “We are particularly pleased to be expanding into Canada, our corporate home market, and be recognised as a trusted supplier across North America.

In July, Bombardier secured a $308m contract from the Crosslinx Transit Solutions Maintenance General Partnership consortium, to provide 30 years of maintenance on Flexity Freedom light rail vehicles.

The LRVs will be operated on the new Toronto Eglinton Crosstown line in Canada.

Crosslinx will maintain the entire system on behalf of the winning consortium responsible for designing, financing, building and maintaining the 19km-long transit line.

The consortium is an equal partnership between Aecon, ACS Infrastructure Canada, EllisDon and SNC-Lavalin, with each member holding a 25% stake.
